Ecological agricultural production and food security for farming families in central Haiti.

Despite its rich agricultural potential, more than half of all the food consumed in Haiti is imported. Almost 80% of agricultural production is based on rural family-run farms, which play a fundamental socioeconomic role for a large proportion of the population. And yet, family-based agriculture is extremely marginalised by the country's farming policies.

Project goal

The current project follows on from two cycles of activities previously conducted to increase the agricultural production capacities of farming communities. The aim is to improve capacities and economic means and reinforce food security for rural families in the target area in three parts: Transforming local production (corn and sorghum) for consumption and sale, improving the skills of farming women and increasing the means of agricultural production.

Project beneficiaries

The direct beneficiaries are the 1,500 farming families in the area targeted by the project, i.e. there are about 6,450 beneficiaries.
