Neutrality: Data protection can save lives

Greater efficiency and more flexibility in data management - that's the promise of cloud solutions. The flip side: potential leaks and security risks. This is a problem, especially when it comes to sensitive and personal data of particularly vulnerable people. Humanitarian organisations are also increasingly being targeted by hackers. However, these actors often lack the financial and personal resources to protect themselves against cyberattacks.

Security through new cloud infrastructure

Neutrality wants to remedy this with a new, secure cloud infrastructure. With the support of Migros Pioneer Fund, the team is developing a hypervisor: software that can isolate the operating system and applications from the computer hardware. As a result, cyberattacks on one computer do not automatically spread to all computers in an organisation; the rest of the system remains protected. In an initial step, Neutrality's approach will be developed and tested with selected humanitarian organisations and actors from critical sectors. Once the technical feasibility has been proven, the project will be made available to other actors.

Protect people at risk

Neutrality focuses on organisations with data from particularly vulnerable target groups such as refugees. The aim of the project is to increase their security with the new cloud infrastructure. Because behind data are people and their lives.
