Digital inclusion is now an essential prerequisite for social inclusion. People who are unable to use digital services are at a disadvantage in many areas of life, such as at work, in education, when looking for accommodation, or when dealing with public authorities. People living in poverty and those at risk of poverty are particularly vulnerable to exclusion.

Low-threshold support services help to break down digital barriers. They promote digital skills, facilitate access to devices and digital services, and create access points that are tailored to people’s needs.

This is precisely where the ‘Digital Inclusion’ Impulse Grant comes in.

Background

Migros Culture Percentage is committed to cohesion in Switzerland and supports people and organisations working to achieve equal opportunities and an inclusive society.

The rapid advance of digitalisation brings many opportunities for society, but not everyone benefits equally. As many as 38 per cent of the Swiss population lack basic digital skills. Among people living in poverty or at risk of poverty, the figure is as high as 53 per cent (see Mobiliar Digital Barometer 2026). People living in poverty and those at risk of poverty are particularly vulnerable to being excluded from digitalisation.

Since 2025, Migros Culture Percentage has focused on the topic of ‘Poverty and Digital Inclusion’. As part of our ‘Get Connected!’ call for proposal in 2025, we supported projects that improve the digital skills of people living in poverty. With the 2026 call for proposals on ‘Digital Inclusion’, we broadened the scope: funding is now available for digital inclusion projects that are developed and implemented in collaboration with people who are experiencing poverty or at risk of poverty.

The ‘Digital Inclusion’ Impulse Grant builds on these experiences. It facilitates straightforward, rapid financial support for local and regional initiatives that break down digital barriers and make it easier for people to access the digital world.
