Floating clinics for vulnerable communities along the Irrawaddy River

The communities living along the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar are vulnerable, isolated and lack medical facilities. Access to healthcare has become even more difficult since the coup of 2021.

Project objective:

FXB has converted and fully equipped two cruise ships, transforming them into floating clinics that can provide primary care, manage chronic conditions, offer antenatal and postnatal consultations, dental and eye care, conduct minor operations and give psychosocial support to 195 different villages. FXB also raises awareness among local communities about preventative measures relating to personal and family health, sexual and reproductive health and associated rights, as well as preventing gender-based violence.

Project beneficiaries:

67,500 villagers receive comprehensive health services (diagnosis, screening, treatment and the management of chronic conditions). These services also include dental and eye care, as well as psychosocial support.

1500 pregnant women and their babies receive antenatal and postnatal care, nutritional supplements and childbirth kits.

1730 people have been trained in first aid and sexual and reproductive health. They then become community health workers and help to prevent gender-based violence.

50,625 community members have been educated in health, hygiene, sanitation and reproductive health rights.
