Children running across a finishing line

With its wide-ranging involvement, the Migros Culture Percentage keeps both young and old active.

Keeping Eastern Switzerland active

Sport and exercise are important in our society. Taking exercise is not just good for the health, it also often performs a social function. Sport teaches respect and tolerance; sport brings people together. This is why the Migros Culture Percentage supports mass sporting events and encourages children and young people in their sports and leisure activities.

The Migros Culture Percentage keeps people active through its involvement in the following ventures:

Support for running

  • Swiss Snow Walk & Run, Arosa: The Swiss Snow Walk & Run, Arosa, is one of a kind. It takes the participants through the snowy Grisons landscape.

  • Davos X-Trails: Mountains, lakes, breathtaking scenery – and you’re in the midst of it all. Run or walk whichever distance suits you, and become part of the Davos X-Trails adventure.
  • Waldstatt Run: Children, seniors, amateur or top runners – the Waldstatt Run is open to a diverse field of starters. The main categories cover a distance of ten kilometres. Between the various runs, the walkers set off on the ten-kilometre circuit. All participants receive the traditional T-shirt and there is also an attractive prize draw.
  • St. Moritz Running Festival: The appeal of sightseeing while running past six lakes is sufficient to keep runners returning to take part year after year.
  • Frauenfeld Town Run: This run, in the heart of Thurgau, attracts over 1,000 runners. The course takes in the town centre of Frauenfeld.
  • Schaffhausen Town Run: A delightful run through the Old Town’s quaint streets. The 7.25 kilometre circuit enjoys a peerless backdrop through the centre of Schaffhausen.
  • Amriswil City Run: Running takes centre stage in Amriswil in early September.
  • Altstätten Town Run: This charming town run regularly draws around 1,500 runners to Altstätten from all over Switzerland.
  • Winti-SOLA: The younger sibling of the SOLA is a relay race that follows a circuit all around Winterthur. Each team of twelve runners covers a total distance of 84.2 kilometres and has to overcome an altitude difference of 1,500 metres.
  • Transviamala run & walk Thusis: The Transviamala run & walk is one of the most attractive settings for a fun run anywhere in Switzerland.
  • Kyburg Run: Enthusiastic runners will find some attractive routes to choose from: The panoramic route up on Kyburg measures five kilometres. The ten-kilometre main race runs from Kyburg village over farm tracks and through the forest. To finish, everyone has to ascend the dreaded steps from Töss to Kyburg.
  • Frauenfeld Marathon: The Frauenfeld Marathon is one of the longest-established running events in the country and now comprises four separate competitions.
  • Gossau Christmas Run: The Gossau Christmas Run takes place in Advent, on every first Sunday in December, around Gossau’s beautifully lit town centre – this is the most popular town run in eastern Switzerland.

Projects to encourage sport and exercise

  • OpenSunday and MidnightSports by Stiftung IdéeSport: People need space to exercise. Stiftung IdéeSport has responded to that fact by opening sports halls in various communities across eastern Switzerland on Saturday evenings and Sundays.
  • Street Workout: Street Workout encourages sporty, healthy lifestyles. It is a form of weight training based on your own body weight that anyone can do whenever and wherever they choose. With the aim of offering people in Eastern Switzerland free access to healthy leisure activities and inspiring an active lifestyle, the Migros Culture Percentage is lending its support to the association street-workout.com to help it create street workout parks and increase the sport’s popularity.
  • PluSport: All sports clubs in Migros Eastern Switzerland’s market area that are affiliated to Switzerland’s umbrella association for sport for the disabled receive a contribution. The main purpose of that funding is to recognise the efforts of clubs that promote sport for the disabled.
