BROD-X: New fabric from scraps

brod-x-buehne

The textile industry produces millions of tonnes of waste every year. Up to 50 per cent of material is lost in the manufacturing process alone – including (high-quality) off-cuts, which are usually incinerated. In view of scarce resources and growing sustainability requirements, this is a problem both ecologically and economically. Most of all, however, it is a wasted opportunity.

Every piece counts

BROD-X would like to exploit this opportunity. The start-up has developed a method that processes off-cuts into new fabrics. This process is currently still being carried out manually. However, the technology for automation and scaling is already being developed in collaboration with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). With the support of the Migros Pioneer Fund, the process – which is mechanical and requires no water or chemicals – is to be brought to market readiness.

Sustainability begins in the system

BROD-X is convinced that sustainability should be considered systemically – and begins during production. With its solution, the company is contributing to a more circular fashion industry, reducing waste and conserving resources. Everyone is a winner.
