Shaping Switzerland locally – even without voting rights
Even without the right to vote, people should have a voice, and “Talking Stick” makes it heard.
"Talking Stick" explores opportunities for participation with disenfranchised people in Switzerland. The Integration Bridge Bern project discusses what it takes to get involved in the local community. They share their concerns, ideas and experiences in dialogue groups held in Arabic, Farsi, Somali, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish and Ukrainian. An exchange with neighbourhood and community representatives is also planned. Participation in decision-making at local level exists in many countries - and it is precisely this diversity that enriches Switzerland. When more people play their part, a more open and vibrant society emerges. The Lucerne School of Social Work supports the project and helps to disseminate the findings. This inspires municipalities, social authorities and social organisations.

From the project team:
«We are exploring ways to enable local participation, even without political rights.»
