Parent-child language centres promote multilingual childhoods
Families cultivate their native language and discover others. FamiPlus offers the ideal learning environment in Biel.
Many families in Biel hardly speak any German or French, which makes them feel isolated. FamiPlus is doing something to counteract this: the parent-child language clubs offer families with young children the opportunity to maintain their own language. At the same time, they are introduced to the local languages. We play, sing, tell stories and eat together in a relaxed atmosphere. While the children learn through play, the parents socialise. The groups are led by women from the respective language areas. They know the challenges that many families face, provide advice and support and, if necessary, help participants access other relevant services.

From the project team:
«Group leaders from the families’ own language regions understand their struggles.»
