Judith Zagury is the director of ShanjuLab, a laboratory for theatre research on the presence of animals based in Gimel, Switzerland, where she lives with the company's animals. As a director, she questions the human-animal relationship in her works and in particular in Perspectives - Un ensemble animal, which brought together more than twenty animals of eight different species in a single show in 2021. She deals with the presence of animals and also collaborates with international artists such as Laetitia Dosch, Stefan Kaegi/Rimini Protokoll or Yuval Rozman and accompanies their tours in Europe. In her next work, In bocca al lupo!, she is staging a research project about wolves.

Danae Dario grew up in Préverenges in Vaud, but also has close ties to German-speaking Switzerland. She spent most of her holidays in Lucerne, where she had contact with animals on her maternal grandparents' farm. As she also has Italian citizenship, she grew up in a trilingual environment. She tried her hand at theatre, horsemanship and circus before starting her studies at the Manufacture School of Dramatic Arts in 2013. During her studies, she was awarded the Friedl Wald Foundation Prize twice. Since completing her bachelor's degree in 2016, she has performed in various theatre productions directed by Charlotte Huldi, Hakob Ghazanchia, Isiy Fahmy, Charlotte Riondel, Maria Da Silva, Jean-Yves Ruf, Natacha Koutchoumov, Sarah Calcine and Jonas Lambelet. In 2022, she went on a world tour with the show En Transit by Amir Reza Koohestani. In 2024, she won the second Récits du futurdes Far° writing residency in Nyon for her text La Chaire des Poules.

Project

The woman and the chicken - two creatures that seem to have nothing to do with each other but fit well together. What they both have in common is that in our patriarchal society they inhabit a body that is dominated and exploited. This results in countless parallels between them. With Roussette, a real chicken, we want to explore together how we can tell this connection on stage. Working with an animal while respecting its welfare raises a multitude of questions. What is the most suitable environment? How to rehearse? How much time is needed?
Thanks to DoubleThéâtre, I am lucky enough to be accompanied by Judith Zagury. She will help me to understand the animal's behavior and needs and at the same time gives me the tools to interact better with it. I can hardly wait to start this exciting work. A nice exercise in dealing with otherness!
