Christoph Frick, born in 1960, is the director and co-founder of the Swiss independent group KLARA, with whom he develops his own plays and co-productions between performance, dance theatre and documentary theatre. Most recently, based on research in a Bolivian prison, he created the performance "Palmasola" with Bolivian and German actors*, and the follow-up production "Dos Vidas. Two lives." Christoph Frick is interested in physical and process-orientated work with actors and has been working intensively with various ensembles at German-speaking city and state theatres such as Freiburg, Hanover, Bochum, Dresden, Mainz and Darmstadt for twenty years. Since 2020, he has been working at the Munich Kammerspiele, for which he is currently developing the trilogy "Land" (AT) together with the author Lothar Kittstein.

Karin Maurer (*1975) is a freelance actress, director and theatre pedagogue. After studying acting at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Paris, she went on a theatre tour through Europe. Back in Bern, she founded the collective Theater Max, which creates productions for the whole family, and develops plays with teenagers and young adults at the Junge Bühne Bern. At Das.Ventil, she develops and performs in productions for adults on socially critical themes. Most of her productions are created through play development and are often based on the personal stories of those involved. The focus is on performative, physical and musical elements. Since 2021, she has been working on her own projects and conducting artistic research into autobiographical play material and the brain. She is currently working on an installation about blood.

Project

INVALID

When is a person an invalid? Who determines that? If a person has an IV pension, does that inevitably make them an invalid? How much value does a person have in our capitalist society if they cannot provide for themselves financially?
Based on her own experiences, Karin Maurer explores the topic of disability. Experiences, official documents and conversations with people who have also experienced an IV pension will be interwoven in the development of a play. Christoph Frick will support them in their research, and together they will clarify methods and play through various artistic formats. The aim of the mentoring program is to develop a directorial concept based on the results of the research. In a later phase, this may result in a full-length theatre play.
