Jane Mumford (*1988) is a cabaret artist, presenter, musician and animator. You may already know her without realizing it from TV shows such as Deville Late Night and Leila's Fix, from radio programs such as the Satire Fraction, or as a percussionist in various rumble orchestras. In her work, she combines the sarcastic, the rhythmic and the absurd according to her preferences. As a presenter, she likes to organize events that enjoy a pinch of the unexpected. She studied Fine Art in Amsterdam in the preliminary course (which was too conceptual), then the BA&MA Animation in Lucerne (which was just right). In 2014, she appeared on a cabaret stage for the first time as part of the duo "9 Volt Nelly" - and she was hooked! Shortly afterwards, the duo won the Olten Cabaret Young Talent Competition and immediately released their first solo: "Ich möchte ein Eisberg sein", followed by "Bäng!Bäng!Bäng!" in 2020. In 2021 it was time for Jane's first solo "REPTIL", followed by her second solo "LEBEN!" in 2024. She lives and works in Zurich and enjoys performing all over the German-speaking world, recently also in English.

Project

Jovana Nikic is working on her second full-length programme. She is a maker who has quickly established herself in the world of cabaret and cabaret in Switzerland. She wrote and conceived her first solo piece on her own and even took care of the booking process. This time, she hopes to benefit from Jane’s expertise and improve her skills and abilities through this coaching.

Jane will join Jovana for a first trial run at the Hecht Jetzt Festival, where she will accompany the rehearsals remotely and be available for questions in between. Together, they will start the research process and begin to sort out the elements of the new piece in a two-day retreat.

Coaching begins at an ideal time, when initial ideas already exist but the work with the director is still pending. The content of the new piece is a socio-critical, choreographic, humorous reappraisal of the term ‘conservation’.
