No Anger «Quasimodo aux miroirs»

A person dressed in black sits on a stage, slightly bent forward, with arms extended behind their back. A large white fabric is partially under and over their feet, creating a contrast with the dark clothing. To the right, a tall, rectangular mirror reflects part of the stage. The background is a plain, dark wall, and the overall atmosphere appears subdued and contemplative.

«Quasimodo aux miroirs» is French.
It means: Quasimodo in front of the mirrors.

What is it about?
In the piece, mirrors represent the view from the outside.
Being stared at.
The view of something foreign.
Of a monster?

What idea do we have of what bodies should look like?
What do we find beautiful?
And what does society find beautiful?
And what does this have to do with our own bodies?
How can I, as a person with a disability, free myself from these ideas?

The play asks questions such as:

  • How can I free myself from these images?
  • How can I reclaim my body?
  • How can we tell new and different stories about disabled bodies?

Duration: 67 Minuten
Language: There is text on the stage. The text is in French.
But it is translated into German and read out loud. Everyone can hear it.
The text is also translated into German sign language.

The main character is Quasimodo.
You might know him from a Disney film.
And from the musical Notre Dame de Paris.
That is something special.
People with disabilities are rarely the main characters in films. No Anger is an artist and researcher.
No Anger grew up with images of perfect bodies in films and series.
How did that influence No Anger?
How does No Anger see her own real body?
Does she feel a connection with Quasimodo from the Disney film?
Does that scare No Anger?

In the piece, mirrors represent the view from the outside.
Being stared at.
The view of something foreign.
Of a monster?
