Dora Balo (b. 1995) is a Hungarian singer who was born and raised in Serbia, where she studied and created music until her first MA in jazz singing. In 2020 she moved to Switzerland, where she graduated from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in vocal pedagogy in spring 2022. She enjoys making music alone, in a duo, but most of all with her five-piece band, with whom she plays her own compositions. Dora Balo writes these songs in Hungarian and firmly believes that more people should get to know this beautiful language. Her sound is very special – in addition to jazz, there are a few pop influences, but elements of Hungarian folk music can also be heard. This transports the audience to a special atmosphere.
Project
Although Dora always thought she needed a bigger band to express herself, she is now working on a completely new, clear soundscape. She is developing new sounds together with bassist Sonja Bossart and guitarist Tamas Zambo.
They are trying to do this with a mix of previous, newly arranged songs, new songs by Dora and some folk songs.
The focus remains on her own compositions, now with a different sound world that the band wants to bring to the audience.
Developing the band sound, which consists only of two instruments and vocals, is a new challenge for Dora.
Elina Duni's coaching is the perfect support for her. With her experience and versatility, she helps the band to develop their ideas, create an optimal sound and consolidate their repertoire.
