Ticino’s only rack railway has been scaling Monte Generoso since 1890. Originally powered by steam, it is now electrified. Yet this marvellous mountain trip is steeped in nostalgia every metre of the way.
After it was purchased by Migros founder Gottlieb Duttweiler, the railway passed into the ownership of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives in 1941. It is supported by the Migros Culture Percentage.
A unique panorama
From the summit you’ll enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama, the only place in Ticino that offers such an experience. The views extend from Milan to Valais and as far as the Bernese Alps.
The mountain restaurant, a unique design by Mario Botta known as the «Fiore di pietra», opened on the summit in 2017. Visit this stone flower to discover where architecture, nature and fine dining come together in perfect harmony.
