Connected, not isolated: empowering volunteers in federal asylum centres
As part of its ‘Tour de Suisse’, the ZiAB/SCCFA Platform is visiting volunteer groups across Switzerland who support people in federal asylum centres.
Around 20 volunteer groups across Switzerland are working to support people in federal asylum centres. They organise social gatherings and leisure activities and support asylum seekers in their day-to-day lives. To ensure that volunteers do not feel abandoned whilst carrying out this demanding work, the ZiAB/SCCFA (Zivilgesellschaft in Asyl-Bundeszentren – ‘Civil Society in Federal Asylum Centres’) Platform visits all groups on site. Together, they gain experience, develop practical tools and foster mutual exchange. This provides volunteers with additional guidance, support and encouragement for their work.
From the project team:
«Volunteer groups often face similar challenges, yet they work in isolation from one another. We make collaborative learning possible.»
