German-speaking Switzerland

At NCBI Switzerland, young male refugees are working to support other refugees. Through training and supervision, they become role models and gain self-confidence.

Through the VAHDAT project, NCBI Switzerland brings together young male refugees who wish to volunteer to help others. The young men accompany other young people, resolve conflicts and help them settle into life in Switzerland. Volunteers can take part in training camps, supervision sessions and a Peacemaker training programme to acquire the skills needed to deal with stressful situations. At regular get-togethers, they offer each other support. This enables the volunteers to fulfil their important role confidently and for the long term.

From the project team:

«We belong to different ethnic groups. I, for example, am Hazara. In Afghanistan, that causes problems, but here at VAHDAT, we’re a team. We’re good at solving problems.»
