Volunteers bring Zurich’s 6th district together
Neighbourhood support is actively practised in Zurich’s 6th district. A new project ensures that voluntary assignments meet the needs of the volunteers. This helps them stay happily engaged for a longer period.
The Nachbarschaftshilfe Kreis 6 (District 6 Neighbourhood Support) scheme in Zurich brings people in the neighbourhood together: anyone who needs help with shopping, studying, digital devices or household chores can easily get assistance from local volunteers. Currently, 85 volunteers are supporting more than 110 residents. To ensure that volunteers are well looked after, the association is launching the ‘Happy Volunteering’ project. Its focus is on greater communication, clear agreements and mutual respect. Volunteers’ needs take centre stage, ensuring that they experience their involvement as meaningful and rewarding.
From the project team:
«We want our volunteers to be able to get involved with enthusiasm, in good health and for the long term – and make sure they get something out of their efforts.»
