Volunteers share their manual skills with the community
The Meter association runs an open workshop in St. Gallen for anyone who wants to carry out creative projects. Its volunteers are given a point of contact to ease the pressure of their work.
At the Meter association’s open workshop, the people of St Gallen can experiment with wood, metal, textiles and ceramics. Around 40 volunteers make the project possible and share their craft skills with the community. As we move into a larger workshop, the amount of coordination required is also increasing. That is why the association is setting up a coordination centre for volunteer management, which organises its collaboration with the volunteers and addresses their concerns. This takes some of the pressure off the volunteers and gives them more time for what they enjoy most: working together to bring creative ideas to life.
