Support for parents of premature babies who help others in the same situation
Parents of premature babies support other families in the same situation. They are trained and supported for their voluntary work.
Frühchen & Neokinder Schweiz supports families of premature and unwell newborns throughout Switzerland. Around 95 volunteer peers – parents who have been through the same experience themselves – support other families either at the hospital bedside or online. Through ‘PeerCare’, volunteers also receive support – in the form of targeted training for handling difficult conversations, regular meetings and a mentoring programme. This helps the peers feel more confident in their role, relieves their emotional strain and enables them to continue their involvement for the long term.
