PLATEFORME 10 digital: A preview museum in 3D

Urban district at the station, a new building is standing on the right of the tracks.

Project completed

Digitalisation is presenting museums with fresh challenges, but also bringing many opportunities. It can draw different fields of the arts together and enable exhibitions for which the public need not even leave the comfort of their own homes. And it even manages to present a museum that is still under construction.

Blending photography, design and art

The new arts district PLATEFORME 10 directly next to Lausanne station has achieved precisely that: with the support of the Migros Pioneer Fund, selected exhibits were presented on a digital platform as a 3D digitalisation project spanning design, art and photograpy – years before the new museum building was ready to open. The project explored the depths of the commonalties and differences between photography, design and the visual arts, while also evoking these media for the public.

Physical PLATEFORME 10 opening in 2022

For the project, the three institutions Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts (MCBA), Musée de l’Elysée and the musée de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains (mudac) experimented with cutting-edge interactive presentation platforms and innovative digitalization solutions that have been developed by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). At the same time, they deepened their content-related cooperation to prepare themselves for the launching of the physical PLATEFORME 10 building in June 2022.
