Between 2017 and 2019, Velo-Mittwoch motivated the public to saddle up and use their bicycles more often. Those who got on their bikes on Wednesdays had the chance to win prizes for cycling.
This pioneering project aimed to anchor cycling more centrally in daily life as a healthy, environmentally friendly method of transportation, thereby also reducing some of the burden on infrastructures. The core of the campaign was the Velo-Mittwoch app, which participants could use to register their cycling activities as well as participate in contests and all other Velo-Mittwoch events.
The findings from the Velo-Mittwoch project were used in designing the successor project «Cyclomania», which has a similar emphasis.
